Lustrous blue crystals of azurite coming off matrix. Natural all around and in good condition.The Milpillas Mine, located in Sonora, Mexico, is a modern underground copper mining operation within the prolific Cananea mining district. Discovered late in the twentieth century and entering production in 2006, the deposit is unique because it was hidden beneath hundreds of meters of post-mineralization alluvial gravels. Geologically, it is a porphyry-style copper deposit where extensive supergene oxidation and enrichment processes created high-grade zones. The mine became world famous among mineral collectors for yielding exceptionally sharp, vibrant crystals of copper secondary minerals, most notably electric blue azurite, malachite, brochantite, and cuprite.
