Extremely large colorless slightly translucent semi lustrous rhombohedral crystals of dolomite measuring to over 6.0 cm on edge set on matrix. Minor quartz is present. Excellent for the species and locality. The mining town of Baiut, located in Maramures County, Romania, has a centuries-long history of metal extraction dating back to medieval times, focusing primarily on polymetallic veins containing gold, silver, copper, lead, and zinc. Geologically, the area is situated within the Neogene volcanic arc of the Eastern Carpathians, where intense calc-alkaline magmatism and hydrothermal activity produced complex epithermal vein networks cutting through sedimentary and volcanic host structures. The underground workings and hydrothermal veins are well-known among mineral collectors for yielding diverse crystallized specimens, including stibnite, quartz, sphalerite, galena, pyrite, and various sulfosalts.
