Attractive grouping of glassy gemmy quartz crystals hosting golden cubic crystals of pyrite. This is in excellent condition all around. The Yuzhna Petrovitza deposit, part of the Borieva Mine system within the Madan ore field in the Smolyan province of Bulgaria, is situated in the central Rhodope Mountains. Mining activity in this region dates back to ancient Thracian and Roman times, with intensive industrial extraction expanding during the twentieth century to recover lead, zinc, and silver. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within a metamorphic core complex where Paleogene hydrothermal fluids circulated through faults and replaced ancient marble layers, forming complex quartz-sulfide veins and skarn bodies. The underground workings are well known among mineral collectors for producing sharp, well-crystallized specimens of galena, sphalerite, pyrite, quartz, and accessory carbonate minerals.
