Classic old time specimen from Romania with glistening crystals of azurite on matrix. In good condition. The specimen comes with several previous old labels as shown at the end of the video.The Banat mountains in southwestern Romania are characterized by complex contact-metasomatic skarn deposits formed where Late Cretaceous intrusive magmas interacted with Mesozoic limestones. This region, historically mined since ancient times, features extensive polymetallic mineralization driven by hydrothermal activity along intrusive contacts. Within the upper oxidation zones of these copper-bearing skarn systems, such as at Ocna de Fier, circulating meteoric waters altered primary sulfide ores over time. This chemical weathering process led to the precipitation of secondary copper carbonates, producing notable specimens of deep blue azurite frequently associated with green malachite.
