Attractive large crystallized cluster of pinkish to purple quartz. Complete all around with minor matrix on the backside. These are often called amethyst flowers. This is in good condition.Irai, located in the Rio Grande do Sul state of Brazil, is a significant region within the Alto Uruguai area known for its volcanic mineral deposits. The geology of this region is characterized by basaltic lava flows associated with the massive Parana-Etendeka volcanic province, which formed during the break-up of Gondwana. As these lava flows cooled and solidified, gas bubbles created cavities, or vugs, where hydrothermal fluids later deposited silica and other minerals. Among these formations are what collectors and dealers call "amethyst flowers," a term used to describe thin, lilac-to-purple amethyst crystals that grow in radiating, petal-like, or rosette patterns. These specimens are often found with associated minerals like celadonite, which can appear as a matrix beneath the crystals, or hematite, which may provide reddish inclusions. While mining for these geodes and mineral pockets has been a part of the local economy for decades, the specific habit of these diverging amethyst sprays remains highly sought after for their aesthetic, flower-like structure and translucency.
