Every now and then the mineral world surprises us and we get some new example of a species that is not just incrementally better, but an order of magnitude 9 (or two) better than previous known rare species. This is a display and competition-quality thumbnail specimen, composed of a single floater crystal of the new species Hingganite-(Nd). The crystal is complete all around, and has a small albite crystal attached on the backside as well. We supply the initial study specimen for the paper identifying this species, to the British Museum; and that was from the same batch as this one. We held them some years to wait and see what they were, and if more could be found. The find was premiered at Tucson by us quietly in 2025; publicly in 2026 - and mentioned in May-June 2026, Vol 57 no 3. This piece was photographed for the show report and is, to my mind, one of the finer crystals among approximately 2 dozen we obtained mostly in one initial pocket through a source in Peshawar. A few trickled out later, although another batch was simply mislabelled herderite crystals; now being sold as Hingganite-(Nd). This one, we can testify, is from the original pocket that looked mysterious and was analysed.
