Very good example for the species, large crystallized groupings of pale green gyrolite measuring to 3.5 cm in diameter on matrix. In good condition.Gyrolite is a hydrous calcium silicate mineral belonging to the phyllosilicate group. It typically forms within the vesicles and cavities of basaltic volcanic rocks as a secondary mineral deposited by low-temperature hydrothermal fluids. It commonly crystallizes in characteristic spherical aggregates, nodular clusters, or radiating pearly rosettes, and is frequently found alongside zeolites, apophyllite, and okenite. While occurring globally in volcanic provinces such as the Deccan Traps of India, Iceland, and parts of the United States, gyrolite is studied primarily for its complex layered crystal structure and its role as an indicator of specific temperature and pressure conditions during hydrothermal alteration in basaltic environments.
