This is a hugely significant specimen from the 1980s finds at this important silver mining locality, which also produced some of the most unique rhodochrosite in the world. While scalenohedral crystals are well known from this location, they are generally 1-2 cm. This specimen hosts a rich coverage of gemmy, lustrous crystals that feature a monster crystal: fully 4 cm tall and 2 cm wide. That is almost 2 inches, tall! Everything is a consistent, deep red, cherry color that is tops for the locality. It is very 3-dimensional and dramatic, any way you look at it! The small, dodecahedral fluorites add a nice accent. Luster is very high, and the surfaces are not pitted as you sometimes see on large crystals from Peru. No repairs nor restorations. The sharp terminations stick out every which way and you can display this as shown, upside down or right side up, or vertically with the major crystal pointing up (as I prefer). There is no damage showing from the display face, and only a small bit of contacting, and that on the periphery. A superb display specimen and an important South American example of this glamorous species. We first obtained this in the early 2000s from Dr. Ed David's collection, and sold it to Rich Geiger.
