The ArkenstoneFeatured
An unusual specimen for this classic locality, in that it features two generations of rhodochrosite, one upon the other. You can see in the closeup, how these large, translucent "bubbles" of rhodochrosite have formed atop a carpet of more typical, earlier generation of small 1-3 mm dogtooth (scalenohedral) crystals. The rounded bubble shaped growths reach 1.6 cm. This is very old material from the 1700s and 1800s; and nothing has come out in a century or more. These only turn up in old collections, and often those themselves obtained these from old museum liquidations. This is a very rich specimen with the two generations, on contrasting goethite zones within a heavy metal ore matrix. An old specimen out of an old German collection, handled by Wolfgang Wendel in the early 2000s.
