A classic of old European and German minerals, these antique Wolf Mine rhodochrosites date to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Surprisingly, these were a late discovery compared to other, older German locations. This is a rich specimen that is a bit unusual as they go, with multiple veins of sharp crystals going through the gangue matrix. An old Scott Williams piece (with label probably from the 1960s), later in the collection of Don Schulz of Rochester. Don, a friend of the late Bill Pinch, donated many of his minerals to Rochester Academy of Science, as well.
