This is a true antique, likely from the 1800s, although it could be older yet. It ended up in the Colorado School of Mines in Boulder, and was traded out in 1960 to local dealer E.M. Gunnell. These large, sharp crystals to about 1 cm or larger, sit atop crystallized siderite, mixed in with seams of quartz. The piece overall is very rich, and attractive. It is the largest example of this style of German rhodochrosite that we have seen for sale in good shape. When Gunnell's collection was sold, this went to Marv Rausch, who specialized in historic minerals and cabinet sized pieces. We obtained it directly from the later sale of his collection, for Rich Geiger - so, 3 owners since 1960.
