These are huge crystals for this type of crystallization for the species at this locality. In great condition. Minor Celestine present within the matrix. The White Rock Quarry, situated near Clay Center in Ottawa County, Ohio, is a legendary locality within the mineralogical community, renowned for its exceptional specimens hosted in Silurian-aged strata. Geologically, the quarry is carved into the Lockport Dolomite, a massive carbonate unit representing an ancient reef system that contains numerous solution cavities and vugs. These openings provided the ideal environment for the crystallization of celestine, calcite, and pyrite from mineral-rich groundwater. Historically, industrial operations at the site began in the late 1800s and intensified in the early 20th century under the Kelly Island Lime and Transport Company to produce lime and crushed stone. While the quarry has seen periods of inactivity and changes in ownership over the decades, it remains a focal point for geological study due to the unique geochemical conditions that produced world-class tabular celestine and fluorite. Although commercial aggregate production has been the primary economic driver, the site's legacy is defined by the high-quality mineral treasures recovered during its long history of excavation.
