Lustrous deep green terminated crystals of epidote measuring to 2.0 cm in size on matrix with crystallized quartz. In good condition. Green Monster Mountain, located on Prince of Wales Island in southeastern Alaska, is a contact metamorphic skarn deposit formed when Mesozoic granitic rocks intruded into Paleozoic limestone. This geological interaction created mineralized zones rich in calcium-silicate minerals, copper, and iron. Historically, the locality was prospected and mined for copper during the early twentieth century, but it later became a source of epidote crystals for collectors. The epidote grew within open cavities and pockets in the skarn, often alongside quartz and magnetite, making the mountain a recognized locality for this mineral.
