The almandine garnets found at Green’s Farm in Roxbury, CT are east coast classics. This locality dates back to the mid 1800s, where garnets were mined for industrial purposes – however, the open-pit mines were closed before 1900. The area became dairy farmland, but collectors still came from all around to collect garnets at Mr. Green’s farm, which was a fee dig site in the mid 1900s. The locality has been closed to the public for 12 years now, however garnets are still found around the roads in Roxbury.
