Wisconsin’s Flambeau Mine is arguably North America’s (or even the world’s) premier locality for chalcocite. Besides the Bristol Copper Mine in Hartford Co., Connecticut, this mine is unparalleled for incredible sharp chalcocite crystals in the US. The mining operation, which lasted from 1993-1997, is noted for producing large bornite coated chalcocite crystals, creating a wonderful iridescence of purple, blue, and gold. This specimen exhibits plenty of that blue/purple iridescence, which dances and shimmers as you move the specimen in your hand. Overall, a fine Flambeau chalcocite with multiple display angles.
