A very nice large rhomb of rhodochrosite, measuring nearly 7 cm across, from the Detroit City Portal. Crystallized all around with a fluorite association, this is a great small-cabinet example. This piece was collected directly above the area of the old Sweet Home Mine workings which produced the Rainbow Pocket – the legendary pocket that yielded the Alma King and the Alma Rose. It is interesting to note that the overall appearance, luster, and color is remarkably similar to specimens from the Rainbow Pocket.
