The early 2000s finds in the town of Momin Akhada in Maharashtra India produced the world’s most iconic and desirable apophyllite specimens. These specimens, colloquially referred to as “disco balls” due to their resemblance, took the world by storm when they first were discovered while digging water wells. Today, they are extremely desirable, and are a staple of any worldwide mineral collection. Increasingly rare and increasingly expensive, these are destined to become, if not already, all-time classic mineral specimens.
