Bunker Hill Pyromorphites with the super-lustrous "wet-look" are among the greatest of Pyromorphites, and are highly desired. There are fewer orange-colored specimens in total, we believe from old stories and tales, than of other colors. And as for crystals with this finest luster and color, compared to those of the yellow to yellowish variety, fewer still. This small-cabinet cluster is a great example of the mine. The crystals are partially hoppered, with the largest of these orpiment-orange crystals being an impressive 2.1 cm long. The luster is fantastic, and, in fact, so good that the terminations actually shimmer as light goes by. Specimens of this quality were found sparingly in the 1980s and 1990s and of this style, from only a few pockets in the 90s. And while that may sound like a long period of time, it was long ago now; and pieces as choice as this were always quite rare and highly valued by collectors for their beauty. This is a truly excellent specimen from this classic locality with a dominating color and presentation in a showcase. Better in person. Ex. Hoppel Collection (#D0769); Matt McGill.
