Erongo is renowned for its wide-ranging and often spectacular specimens, and the variety of colorful and intricate Fluorites certainly counts among them. This complex small cabinet piece features two distinct habits. The first generation is a series of long and narrow spinel-twinned Fluorites. These then, are girdled in the middle by a 3.4 cm modified cube that itself extends with a spinel twin growing in one direction. This second generation Fluorite is very transparent and even GEMMY in person; and it contains a large, sharp, cubic phantom that imparts a beautiful aqua color to the crystals. This phantom also fluoresces purple, which helps outline its form. This fine and unusual Fluorite (note: spinel-twinned Fluorite is rare and coveted) is a fine example for the region. It is even better in person, as holding it allows you to really appreciate just how gemmy the large crystal is. Much more interesting in person than photos seem to convey, this is an unusual specimen from an unusual pocket of crystals found in 2024.
