An excellent example for Quintinite from the co-type locality in Russia and exceptional for the species. Numerous, well-formed, 1 to 3 mm, vitreous, transparent to translucent, crystals of Quintinite (probably Quintinite-2H polytype) are scattered about the lower half of this piece on white Barytocalcite and Dolomite (with possibly some Sjögrenite). The colorless to pale yellow Quintinite crystals are hexagonal in shape and are situated atop granular, subhedral, whitish crystals of Barytocalcite along with some Dolomite. Quintinite is a rare hydrated magnesium-aluminum carbonate. The Phlogopite crystals, that serve as a backdrop for the piece, are just excellent on their own merits and exhibit a translucent orange-brown color. They are terminated, slightly tapering crystals with well-defined faces and edges. The Phlogopites are stacked up and make up an attractive ridge along the back of the piece that contrasts well with the other minerals. This is a great rare mineral combination piece from the Kovdor Massif in Russia. Ex. Paul Stahl collection no. 29168. Obtained from Walter Weber, well-known collector and laser physics expert. We have a note from him that he obtained it from Russian collector Victor Yakovenchuk in 2002.
