Norway is well-known for its world-class crystals of Zircon (the type localities are there) and this old, classic specimen upholds the tradition of quality and size! This single crystal is spectacular as it has textbook form, incredible luster and a translucent bronze-red color that is easily visible along any edge of the crystal and the termination. This big tetragonal crystal measures 5.5 cm tall and 3.4 cm at its widest with a perfect termination at the top and part of the bottom termination can be seen growing into the matrix. There is even a small, 1.6 cm sidecar crystal along with another partial crystal on the left side of the big one. This gorgeous Zircon crystal sits perfectly on a two-tone matrix of white Feldspar(?) and flaky, massive, brown-black Biotite. These antique Norwegian Zircons are very rare on the market and great matrix ones, like this, are impossible to find. Very good yellow shortwave UV fluorescence. Ex. Paul Stahl collection - 29010. This was one of Paul's favorite European pieces in the collection of thousands of specimens; and prominently displayed in several of his exhibitions.
