Görgeyite is a very rare hydrated potassium-calcium sulfate found at only a dozen or so evaporate-type deposit localities worldwide. Only this location gives display quality, large and attractive crystals like this cabinet piece. These came out in the 1990s and early 2000s and this sculptural piece consists of a cluster of large, gemmy to translucent, colorless to tan crystals from 1 cm to an amazing 7.6 cm! The largest crystal, and many of the others are doubly terminated. This is of most unusual quality, size and symmetry for the species. This remote locality has produced best of species. A fine, nearly pristine example. We have seen larger examples in the past, with the Fersman Museum and a few other dealers, in massive size but without such aesthetics. This is, for the size, a beauty queen amongst them - and happens to be significant as well. Ex. Paul Stahl collection. Although they first came to market in the 1990s (we saw Ed David buy a great one at that time), these are thought to have actually come out in the 1980s and then hit the Western market after the Berlin Wall fell and some hoarded collections in the East came to market.
