This pretty, pale blue miniature specimen from the Tenke-Fungurume area in the Kolwezi mining district, Lualaba, DR Congo has a complex geochemical story to tell. Rising up from the dark green massive Chrysocolla/Malachite base are diverging 'wings' of pale blue, Quartz-coated bladed Chrysocolla epimorphs/pseudomorphs after Malachite pseudomorphing presumed bladed Azurite crystals. This fascinating geochemical oddity is actually easy to predict, but the conditions required so rarely fall in line that only two occurrences are known: this one in the DR Congo, and another in Arizona, USA. However, the DR Congo specimens are much better crystallized in showing this remarkable process.
