This isn't your average quartz; it’s from a total one-off oddball discovery that makes you stop in your tracks; and the more you examine it, the more unique details you find to appreciate.The striking duality of textures immediately pulls you into this unique miniature specimen, which features two dominant, off-white quartz crystals rising upwards with rugged, matte faces that are sharply accentuated by the razor-sharp, glassy, vitreous luster of straw-colored calcite rhombs. A super neat one off freak-of-nature that has a balanced combo combination and a story to tell. The quartz itself displays an interesting two-generational growth that was subjected to highly precise, selective etching. The pocket solutions hollowed out the ‘insides’ of the quartz caps into a distinct, skeletal "star" formations along the epitaxial growth plane. What makes this even more neat is the second generation of calcite shows slight etching, which must’ve been a second etching event that took place (but not corrosive enough to leave a destruction behind, only enough to frost the calcite faces). To make this mineral oddity even more interesting, it features two fluorescence colors: one generation of calcite reacts an electric red under SW UV, while the second generation lights up honey-yellow under LW UV. A must-have piece of geological eye candy and oddity for any quartz fanatic looking to elevate their suite, but it is also simply a unique object for any collector. From a one-time find in April of 2026, very few specimens were associated with calcite and these are even in China at a high premium compared to loose crystals and clusters.
