This quartz specimen is all about elegance, balance, and an incredible turn of geological events, all in one. This piece features a sharp, crisp, bone-white quartz crystal juxtaposed between two distinct sandy yellow-colored rhombohedral calcite crystals. It beautifully showcases the freak of nature selective etching that happened in this pocket. An extremely unique etching event that perfectly followed the epitaxial growth of the first quartz generation, the solution in the pocket hollowed out the quartz crystal caps into a bizarre, yet perfect skeletal ‘star’ formation, revealing two distinct generations of quartz that miraculously survived the corrosive environment. For the ultimate finale, this piece features dual fluorescence; glowing electric red under shortwave UV and honey-yellow under longwave. It is a stunning display of geological conditions so far from common, they produce true oddities. From a one-time find in April of 2026, very few specimens were associated with calcite and these are even in China at a high premium compared to loose crystals and clusters.
