This isn't your average quartz; it’s a total freak of nature. It features two distinct generations of both quartz and calcite. This architectural display piece underwent selective unique etching that hollowed out the ‘caps’ of the quartz crystals into bizarre, skeletal formations that follow the epitaxial growth of the first quartz generation, leaving a hollowed-out etched ‘Star of David’ formation at the caps. The contrast here is wild; you get the rugged, almost sugary-matte texture of the white quartz with the razor-sharp, glassy honey-toned calcites juxtaposed against the quartz crystals. With fantastic 3D depth, this piece has incredible verticality on a shelf in a mineral cabinet, showing off a different angle and side of the mineral oddity, no matter how you rotate it. The bonus on top is the fluorescence: one generation of calcite lights up electric red under SW UV, and the second generation of calcite lights up honey yellow under LW UV. A true collector's freak of nature. From a one-time find in April of 2026, very few specimens were associated with calcite and these are even in China at a high premium compared to loose crystals and clusters. This should be one of the best of them, from what we saw on the ground in China at the time they came out. There are many small pieces and loose crystals, few matrix - and even fewer large matrix on calcite.
