Crystal ClassicsFeatured
Tucson, Arizona, USAFine Alpine Brookite crystals are rare and often very delicate. The village of Elm in Glarus Süd is one of the few Swiss localities known to have produced display-worthy Brookite crystals but they are usually very thin blades in their form. This miniature specimen shows this very well, with a cream-coloured rock matrix richly invested with and covered by wafer-thin orange-brown transparent bladed crystals of Brookite, many showing classic parallel linear growth lines and unusual central lines of black. The largest freestanding crystal reaches 8 mm crystal in length. Some crystals are missing, presumably lost to their fragility during collecting, leaving behind just their thin base, but there are several undamaged, perfect well-formed freestanding bladed Brookite on display. Quite a rarity. Mounted on an acryllic block for handling and display.
