When it comes to the ultimate Rhodochrosite specimens there are two standout localities, both with very different types of crystal. In Colorado, the Sweet Home mine produced large individual cerise-red rhombic crystals, but in South Africa, the N'Chwaning mines furnished strawberry-red glossy scalenohedral 'dog's tooth' crystals. This truly magnificent Rhodochrosite comes from the latter locality, where the finds of the 1970s redefined our view of manganese minerals. Forming a very substantial bed of exceptionally lustrous (the finest 'wet' type), strawberry-red, tightly clustered sprays of scalenohedral crystals, it is not only the richness in colour and lustre at play here, but the remarkable perfection of the crystals with so little damage that is key. With the magical translucency of the very best N'Chwaning 'Rhodos' directional lighting really accentuates its stunning visual properties. It comes with a custom-made Sunnywood acryllic display stand.
