Tucson, Arizona, USAAn off-matrix, small cluster of quite large, thick tabular crystals of pewter-grey Bournonite from the famous Les Malines District at Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon, France. The largest crystal reaches 3.8 cm across with a thickness of 1.7 cm and is beginning to show the development of 'cogwheel' twinning, but most of the crystals are untwinned. On one side, three smaller Bournonite crystals grow out from the main crystal, the largest being 2.4 cm across. All of the Bournonite crystals are in excellent condition with no obvious damage to their faces, but with a broken surface making up its base. This famous French Bournonite occurrence is within a huge stratiform lead-zinc deposit which was worked from the 1880s until the early 1990s. Ex Kessler Collection, it is unclear if this specimen was collected during the later years of mining, or as part of a small discovery made in the early 2000s.
