Legrandite, is a rare zinc arsenate hydrate and is one of the Holy Grails of mineral collecting and few really good specimens of any size range are to be had, like this combination specimen with Köttigite. Köttigite is also a zinc arsenate hydrate This piece is an exceptional miniature that has excellent, bright yellow Legrandite crystals and very good, dark olive-green Köttigite as a backdrop. This attractive piece consists of several groups of yellow-orange Legrandite bundles, two of them quite dramatic, in particular. One of the two groups is a gorgeous, fanned spray composed of gemmy to translucent, orange-yellow, 3 to 6.5 mm, stout, perfectly terminated crystals; and the other is composed of three, dramatic, bright yellow-orange, 5 to 9 mm, prismatic crystals that are also nicely terminated. The other, smaller Legrandite groups are nice as well, just with smaller crystals and there is another larger group at the periphery that does show some minor damage. All of the Legrandite sits on a "drusy" coating of dark olive colored Köttigite that lines a low-profile Goethite vug. An excellent and colorful Legrandite specimen! Ex. John Dagenais collection. Illustrated in his chapter of Mineral Collectors of the Northwest, Mineralogical Record (September 2019), page 50.
