Chalcophyllite is an uncommon, hydrated copper-aluminum sulfate-arsenate and in the past the only really great specimens for collectors have come from Cornwall and a few other small finds in history until now, with this surprise from China! An elongate, blocky piece of matrix has the display top strewn with numerous, lustrous and sparkling, green-blue crystals of Chalcophyllite in bunched clusters to 1 cm across. Individual crystals to 3 mm, are platy and grouped together in patches and elongate groups. The colorful green-blue crystals are set on a contrasting olive brown and olive drab mottled rock matrix. The piece looks great in hand specimen and even better under the loupe or microscope! This is from a single pocket find in a very rural, remote area of China. We found a few of them for sale at China shows in the past (around 2016-17), and then no more. Excellent locality material for this species! This large specimen was in Rob's personal China collection until now (he had a duplicate and realized that only somewhat later).
