This is a rare specimen of colorful Brucite from the Bazhenovskoye deposit in Russia! It is a glowing, translucent, teal-blue subhedral crystal cluster of Brucite composed on a contrasting white matrix for excellent displayability. Great Brucite specimens like this from here are incredibly rare and this is an old piece probably dating back to the turn of the 20th Century. They were the best-of-species by far, prior to the finds of yellow Brucite from the Killa Saifullah District in Pakistan. However, those are yellow and there are literally tons of them; and so it's hard to beat these much more rare Russian pieces for their color! I have seen only a few others of this magnitude for the species, from the region, in major collections of the old era (Ed David's, for example). The Brucite crystals on this matrix specimen are just beautiful and reach 4 cm across; and display a pearlescent luster with gemmy, pastel teal-blue interiors. Brucite is fairly uncommon worldwide and sharp, colorful crystals on a contrasting matrix like this even more so! These are classic old finds, mostly forgotten by collectors as they were so rare even when they came out (we believe they were found in the 1980s but only reached the western market in the 1990s after the Wall fell).
