Tucson, Arizona, USARenowned for stunning crystallized Fluorite specimens, the Cave-in-Rock Sub-District, or simply Cave-in-Rock, was usually as far as specimens were provenanced. This fine and quite distinctive Cave-in-Rock Fluorite is specifically from the Victory mine (Addison shaft) and comes from Arvid Pasto's famous Fluorite collection. Victory mine operated from the 1920s until about 1952 when, depressed fluorspar prices led to closure. Sold to the Minerva Oil Company, it reopened from 1954 until the mid-1970s. It is not clear when this specimen was collected. Miniature in size, it presents a classic dark purple colour with typical uneven undulating crystallized surfaces, and good translucency around the edges. Dominated by a single cubic, or cuboid crystal, this crystal presents fascinating incised faces as prominent grooves penetrating its edges from two directions at 90 degrees to each other. Minor epitaxial overgrowth of smaller cubic crystals is also to be seen. In overall very good condition, this is a fine miniature Fluorite crystal from Victory mine with great character.
