Tucson, Arizona, USAThe less well-known Nakaye mine in New Mexico was a smaller fluorspar mine that operated during between the 1920s and 1950s. Although lacking somewhat in colour, this well-crystallized smaller cabinet-sized specimen presents rather funky-looking stepped crystal aggregates upon a grey siliceous rock matrix. The crystals, which have a somewhat icy-looking appearance, exhibit stacked cubes, sometimes tending towards cubo-octahedral clusters. Fluorite from Nakaye mine is never gemmy and rarely shows colour, and this cream-coloured piece from Arvid Pasto's collection is a fine example.
