Tucson, Arizona, USAIt is certainly not very often that we see a well-crystallized Fluorite from the Watson Mountain Prospect, Gila Fluorspar Mining District in Grant County, New Mexico. This miniature-sized specimen is actually quite sweet for an unusual occurrence, featuring a bed of tightly intergrown translucent plum-purple octahedral crystals on a thin layer of matrix. The terminations are unusually sharp for octahedral Fluorite crystals but their compact nature means that it is only the tips of the 'pyramids' that are seen. Although not glassy, their lustre is not matt either, lying somewhere in the middle. Nevertheless, this is a fine representative Fluorite from this lesser known locality. Ex Arvid Pasto Collection.
