Outstanding locality Amethyst from Pennsylvania exhibiting a great translucency and glassy luster crystal with interesting varying hues of purple saturation throughout. The color variation appears to be of a random nature with colors that range from dark midnight purple to bluish purple to grape to lavender, although the termination points all have good color. The specimen is a double terminated crystal with the prominent main termination complete and the opposing termination having split growth resulting in multiple smaller points. A unique component of this piece is the skeletal or “fenster” growth forms on the termination faces combined with the growth impedance features on the back half of the crystal. These features provide an intriguing textural composition for the piece and give a fascinating look into the crystal growth of this Amethyst specimen. While the larger crystal’s growth is incomplete, the contacted area is filled with a multitude of tiny faces showing the internal banded growth history of the crystal. The growth features really accentuate the natural beauty and desirability of this amazing Pennsylvania Amethyst. Old label from David Seaman, donation to the American Museum of Natural History. Ex.
