From an unusual locality for gem Quartz, this is an appealing grouping of a trio of intergrown, glassy Smoky Quartz crystals with a light smoky color and translucent internal areas transitioning into clear transparent terminations. The growth habit for each crystal is slightly different with the basal detachment indicating the largest crystal on the right, measuring 3.8 cm by 2.9 cm, may have formed as the head of a scepter. The Quartz faces have many growth features on all three crystals including an interference or impression contact on the back of the left crystal. The middle crystal has interesting internal inclusions of black (iron?) flecks, and the overall piece has numerous internal diffraction surfaces resulting in a lot of optical “rainbow” effects. The piece is in excellent condition with only a couple of tiny nicks. A lovely and intriguing Smoky Quartz trio with a balanced aesthetic and numerous features of interest to discover. Ex. Ken Rippere, Ex. William (Bill) Larson Quartz Collection. Ken was Bill's roommate in the 1960s at Colorado School of Mines. This collection was built since the 1980s and on exhibit for decades in his jewelry and mineral store in Fallbrook, California.
