A classic of the 1980s, this piece is elegant in its combination. Striking combination of color and form on this contrasting Mexico piece from Guanajuato with translucent white Calcite crystals that are draping across the top of a “stalactite”-style knob covered with tiny light lavender, glassy Amethyst crystals. The flattened rhombohedral Calcite crystals, measuring up to 3.1 cm, have a satin luster with faint striations on the smooth main faces and interesting highly textured end faces. The Amethyst crystals formed as an outer rind on a cryptocrystalline white Quartz core, with crystals extending out to 1.3 cm and individual crystals having up to a 4mm width. They tend to have an almost phantom-like darker purple interior with clear to lightly tinted purple terminations. The Calcites are complete with minor contacting noted on the back crystal edges. There are a few chipped Amethyst points, however they are difficult to discern and do not detract from the overall piece. This three-dimensional specimen displays a nice balance with great textural features that combine to create eye-catching aesthetics. Ex. William (Bill) Larson Quartz Collection. This collection was built since the 1980s and on exhibit for decades in his jewelry and mineral store in Fallbrook, California. From the Kerith Graeber collection to Larson long ago.
