A superb Smoky Quartz specimen from the classic small deposits scattered around Lincoln County, New Mexico location that produces some of the finest examples of the species. A debatable best-in-class location and a definite favorite for many Quartz collectors. The sharpness and quality of the transparent, glassy, gemmy crystals combined with the enticing smoky color is simply a natural work of art. Perfect specimens in this size range are not common, and never were. Today, further collecting in the richest areas of quartz (within a national park) is forbidden, so no more will come out of those zones, despite occasional finds on the periphery. The color has an elegant transition from a darker smoky at the base to showcasing wisps of smoky color upwards before becoming almost clear at the perfect terminations. The near pristine condition has no visible damage to the main crystals with only bruising to one periphery crystal. Ex. William (Bill) Larson Quartz Collection.
