Dazzling Quartz cluster from the Boekenhouthoek area in South Africa having six prominent well defined, terminated, lustrous crystals in which the prism faces are completely engulfed with a secondary growth of smaller Quartz crystals that all extend out perpendicular to the main faces. This growth form is commonly referred to as “Cactus” or “Pineapple” Quartz and is very well known from the location. Interestingly, the termination faces never seem to be covered with the secondary growth remaining clear and clean. The Quartz plate has a nice three-dimensional display with individual crystals standing vertically, up to 5.4 cm tall, all showing wonderful textural features. Its rich golden honey color is due to iron oxides, although the crystals remain highly translucent. A unique and vibrant color among thousands which were dull or pastel, this piece leaps out to the eye. Lighting accentuates the display by revealing the crystal’s rich golden glow that is even further enhanced by the multitude of tiny bright glassy faces that shimmer from every direction. This specimen is in near pristine condition with only the slightest of termination nicks and some periphery edge wear from extraction.
