Titanite on Feldspar epimorph
Unknown Owner
This is certainly one of the more unusual Titanite specimens I have come across. Forming a pair of 'wings' two large narrow blades of finely crystallized rough-textured Feldspar are held in place by another perpendicular blade as its base and a smaller one spanning the opening between the 'wings'. This Feldspar appears to be replacing, or pseudomorphing, some earlier mineral, but quite what that was is unknown. Encrusting the Feldspar preferentially on its edges and one side are many glossy camouflage-green crystals of Titanite. These crystals are complexly intergrown but very rich. This very strange specimen is from Imilchil at Imilchil Cercle, Midelt Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco and was collected in about 2016.
