Fluorite on Pyrite with Geocronite

This fine, green Fluorite, comes from a recent discovery at Milpo mine in the remote Atacocha mining district in Peru. As a miniature specimen it presents bed of a truncated octahedral Fluorite crystals sitting upon a very thin layer of small pyritohedron Pyrite crystals. The green colour is very rich and is enhanced with good directional lighting or back lighting due to the fine glassy to translucent appearance of the Fluorite. The Fluorite crystals are unusually (for this deposit) preferentially coated on one edge with a layer of white/grey Fluorite which adds character. The largest Fluorite crystal reaches 2.5 cm across, but does have some edge wear. Around the edges other crystals show signs of damage, but it is the sumptuous colour, overall form and colour-zoned character which really catch the eye. Additionally, sub mm, grey Geocronite crystals are sparsely scattered upon the upper surface of the Fluorite. Some are damaged, but one or two are superb microcrystals of this extremely rare sulphosalt. A fine miniature from this new find.
