The Spessartine garnet crystals from Wushan Spessartine mine at Tongbei, Fujian Province, China are so good that one forgets that there are other great crystallized minerals there too. In this instance the bright orange Spessartine crystals are hosted upon a single, matrix-less, black Quartz crystal. Labelled as Smoky Quartz, there could be an argument to call it Morion as it is so darkly coloured. Nicely terminated and with glossy faces, the Quartz prism shows interesting stepped faces down its prism length. There is one small area of either contact damage, or where it was alongside another crystal, midway up one edge of the prism, but otherwise it is in great shape and is enhanced significantly by the prominent bright orange Spessartine crystal studded across certain faces and around its summit. A Chinese classic.
