The Idar-Oberstein area has been famous for agates and crystal-lined geodes since the 16th century. Labelled as from Fischbachtal, this is almost certainly from Bernhard quarry or Juchem quarry at Gerach, near Fischbach. With a classic smooth pitted grey outer surface the internal vug surface is completely lined with exceptionally glossy terminated Quartz crystals. Labelled by the previous owner as Amethyst it is so intensely dark that it could almost be labelled as Smoky Quartz too. Under magnification and strong illumination, some of the crystals are a deep plum-purple, whilst others are dark smoky brown. Large for display and with crystals in perfect condition, this is a superb crystallized Quartz from this most famous crystal-working area. Ex Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021) Collection.
