Reyes mine is a historic silver mine dating back more than a century, but has continued to produce, even in recent times. Indeed, the Guanajuato mining region was the world's largest silver producer during the late 18th century, producing near a third of all silver. Renowned for small, but exceptional silver sulphides and silver sulphosalts, it has also produced some exquisite Native Silvers. That is exactly what this large miniature specimen is, with beautiful 'rams-horn' Native Silver wires with a wonderful colour and patina sprouting out from Quartz veinstone. These wires would reach 2 cm in length if laid out straight. Much more wire Native Silver is seen embedded within the matrix and other wires protrude, some with small white crystals attached. This is a really attractive piece and allied with such an important historical silver mining area is a real classic.
