Discovered in about 2015, a mountainside exposure in Canta District, Canta Province, Peru briefly produced interesting fibrous, to needle-like green Epidote crystals in sprays associated with brown bladed Axinite-(Mn) crystals, but nothing more was seen until recently. Nearly a decade after that initial find and the aesthetic quality of specimens has improved dramatically. This fine, cabinet-sized display specimen shows how the bar has been raised, with magnificent, fan-like radiating sprays of needle-like pistachio-green Epidote crystals, reaching 2.5 cm in length, splaying off in many directions, and intergrown with well-formed sharp, bladed, brown Axinite-(Mn) crystals, to 1 cm in length. Free-standing acicular Epidote crystal sprays like these are rarely seen anywhere in the world, making this an important display-worthy crystallized Epidote and the addition of Axinite-(Mn) compliments it wonderfully.
