This is certainly not something we see very often - a Nigerian Amethyst. Lacking crystals, this huge vein section from Jos Plateau is both colourful and informative. With an orange sandstone base/host rock, a very wide Quartz vein extends upwards beginning with cream and white and then shifting dramatically to deep purple then back to white and paler purple bands. Each layer shows textures pointing upwards, representing the individual growth lines within crystals, but they just never reach a point at the top where those crystals were able to manifest as terminated faces. Ex Weyand Collection.
