This impressive Belgian Quartz comes from the famous Porphyry quarry at Bierghes in Wallonia. Entirely Quartz, crystals are intergrown at all angles with just a select few reaching Rock Crystal transparency. At 11.4 cm in length, the largest crystal shows the classic 'Dauphine'-style termination with one greatly enlarged pyramidal crystal face - in this case dominating totally. Two other slightly smaller crystals display superb clarity and wonderful terminations. The base of this specimen from which most of the crystals rise is mostly opaque Milky Quartz but with the crystals transparency increasing away from the base. Ex David Hardman Collection, no. 8858 and earlier ex Tom Costes Collection.
