At 8.9 cm in length this narrow, doubly-terminated 'floater' Quartz crystal from Bedretto Valley in Ticino (Tessin), Switzerland is just like a needle. Colourless and transparent, this Rock Crystal variety of Quartz is quite distinctive in its shape, with over 90 % of its length being an almost parallel-sided prism, with either tip showing a very short pointed set of termination faces both of which are in good condition. However, at one end, the crystal swells very slightly just before its termination, just like the eye-end of a needle. This is a very funky individual Quartz crystal from the European Alps. It is from the superb systematic collection assembled by the brothers Martin and Michael Günther (1951-2007 & 1956-2021).
