This is a unique grape-juice colored purple Fluorite from an important find, most of us consider the best find of such purple Fluorite at Ojuela. Ojuela, one of Mexico's, and the world's, great mines, has produced any number of important species and specimens. Fluorites are rare, and some Ojuela Fluorites have the signature characteristic of fluorescing a stunning, highly-unusual orange-red color. Beyond that, this amazing cabinet-sized specimen is exceptional for its richness and quality, as well as size. The gossan matrix is covered with gemmy and lustrous, grape-purple Fluorite crystals that average right about 1.5 cm. The luster and color are excellent for the locality, and the fluorescence adds a whole nother layer of intrigue. Under LW light, not only do the crystals glow an orange-red, but careful observation will reveal super-sharp zones of fluorescence that parallel the faces just below the surface. It's a remarkable coloration no matter what wavelength you observe these with. This is one of the greatest Ojuela Fluorites I have seen. It was formerly in the Jason New collection when he exhibited at Tucson main show and sold us the case around 2011-12. We bought the Jason New collection (at that time) and sold it to the Liebetrau's for their important Fluorite suite. This has not been on market, publicly, at all. This beauty won the MIGUEL ROMERO AWARD in 2013 for best Mexican mineral specimen on exhibit in any case at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. The actual trophy comes with the piece.
